1978

In order to build the tunnel under Yellow River, the company’s predecessor, 4501 Project Headquarter of Ministry of Railways established in Luoyang City Henan Province in May 1978 with the permission of the State Council.  In the same year, the State Council approved the 4501 Project Headquarter of Ministry of Railways to reorganize Tunnel Engineering Bureau of Ministry of Railways. Since then, China had the company which specialized in tunnel and underground engineering construction.

Milestone: Dayaoshan Tunnel

Dayaoshan Tunnel is China's first ultra-long, double-track electrified railway tunnel. The tunnel runs north to south through Dayao Mountain and is 14,295 meters long. The buried depth of the tunnel is 70 to 910 meters.

The Dayaoshan Tunnel was once the longest railway tunnel in China. The tunnel took more than 4,000 workers for 5 years and was opened on May 6, 1987. It was the longest railway tunnel in China at that time. The opening of the Dayaoshan Tunnel has shortened the railway journey by nearly 15 kilometers and increased the speed of trains from 50 kilometers per hour to more than 100 kilometers per hour, and it also strengthened transport links between Lingnan Area and the Central Plains.

The project began to construct in November 1981 and was completed in December 1989 and won the special prize of State Science and Technology Awards

1983

In December 1983, Tunnel Engineering Bureau designed and built Jundushan Tunnel of Datong-Qinhuangdao Railway, which was rank second only to Dayaoshan Tunnel in length at that time. The Jundushan Tunnel is control engineering, and the geology is extremely complicated, and the whole tunnel is mostly weak surrounding rocks. The tunnel was completed in August 1988, and it has set a domestic record for the construction of double-track railway tunnel with the highest monthly completion hole of 241 meters on a single working face.

Milestone: Jundushan Tunne

Jundushan Tunnel began to construct in January 1981 and was completed in 1989. This tunnel is the first heavy-haul technologies double-track railway in China. It located in the southeast of Yanqing county, Beijing, south of Yanshan Mountain, between Yanqing Railway Station and Tielucun Railway Station. The length of the tunnel is 8460m, and is the third longest railway tunnel in China.
