China Railway Tunnel Group Co., Ltd. (CRTG in short) is the largest engineering contractor in the tunnel and underground engineering in China ,and also a backbone member of China Railway Group Ltd.(CREC in short), which is listed in the Fortune Global 500. The predecessor of CRTG was the Tunnel Engineering Bureau of the Ministry of Railway.
For more than 40 years, it has been focusing on tunnel and underground engineering construction, leading China's tunnel science and technology to achieve four leaps. It has become a comprehensive enterprise group integrating planning, design, construction, scientific research, equipment and investment. The total number of employees of the group is 14544, among which, there are 8079 management and professional technical personnels which includes 1 national expert with outstanding contribution, 25 personnel enjoying the special subsidy of the State Council, 1 selected in "national talents project", 1 national technical expert and 1 Central Plains Scholar.
Actively carring out the international market business, with overseas footprints in Europe, America, Asia and Africa, CRTG has projects under construction in Central Asia, West Asia, Southeast Asia, South America and Northern Europe. The construction of Angren-Pap Railway Qamchiq Tunnel Project in Uzbekistan, was ever the "President No. 1 project" of Uzbekistan.

The annual tunnel construction capacity is more than 500km, and more than 10,000km of various types of tunnels have been constructed, accounting for about 10% of the total length of tunnels in China. It has crossed completed rivers, lakes and seas for 112 times, including 11 crossing the Yangtze River and the Yellow River, 15 crossing the Yellow Sea, the East China Sea and the South China Sea, and 19 crossing the Pearl River, ranking first among similar enterprises. The construction records of underwater tunnels have been created. Shenzhen Wanghai Road Rapid Renovation Project, the largest diameter TBM tunnel that is under construction in China with a diameter of 16.28 meters, is leading the industry in large TBM construction technology. CRTG has participated in the subway construction of 42 cities in China. With 130 TBM machines, it has the largest number and most complete categories among similar construction enterprise in China.
It has Top-Grade qualification for contracting railway, highway and municipal projects, Grade-A design qualification in railway, highway and municipal engineering industry, and Grade-A surveying and mapping qualification, and has passed the AAA credit evaluation of China's Construction Industry.

So far, more than 857 scientific research achievements have passed the appraisal, evaluation or acceptance, including 17 national science and technology progress awards (including 1 special award, 3 first prizes and 10 second prizes), and more than 426 Provincial and Ministerial Science and Technology Progress Awards; more than 500 construction methods, including 27 national construction methods and 160 provincial and ministerial construction methods; and more than 500 intellectual property rights, including 170 invention patents and 15 software copyrights. In addition, it has won 23 Luban Awards, 42 Zhan Tianyou Awards, 67 National Quality Engineering Awards, 11 national municipal Golden Cup awards, and 1 International Project Management Silver Award. In 2022, the company has beed awarded "Technical Innovation of the Year" award by the International Tunnelling and Underground Space Association (ITA).
It has State Key Laboratory of shield and tunneling technology, national enterprise technology center and post doctoral research station. The tunnel and underground engineering branch of China Civil Engineering Society is set up in the enterprise. With the authorization of China Construction Machinery Industry Association and China Construction machinery society, the "full face tunnel boring machine condition monitoring and evaluation center" has been established.
